What are Dental Veneers?

Cosmetic dentists are coming up with innovative procedures to return that bright smile to your face. Dental veneers also called porcelain laminates is one such procedure. They are extremely thin shells similar in colour to your teeth and they cover the surface of the teeth to give them a better appearance. The veneers are made from porcelain or other composite material which is usually stain resistant and can reflect light just like your natural teeth.

Problems that veneers can fix

Dental veneers are generally used for:

Discoloured teeth

Worn Down, chipped or broken teeth

Misaligned, misshapen, or uneven teeth with craters or bulges.

For gaps in teeth.

The Procedure

The procedure involves 3 steps and hence requires at least three trips to the dentist.

When you first visit emergency dentist, you should discuss with him the purpose of taking the treatment and the result you want to achieve. The dentist will examine your teeth, advise you whether or not it can be done, and inform you about the procedure involved. An x-ray may or may not be required. He will also explain any limitations specific to you and will take impressions of your teeth.

The dentist will finally check your bite and make any adjustments required according to your comfort and response. He may ask you to come for a follow up after a week or two to see how your teeth and gums are accepting the veneer. You can give him any feedback at that time.
