Things you Should Avoid Shipping from USA to Australia

If you are trying to shift to Australia from USA or willing to buy an item in USA and get it shipped to Australia, then you must be careful. There are certain things you should keep in mind before bringing shipping or importing something to Australia. In general, all products are subject to certain regulations, duties, GST (Goods and Services Tax) and other charges, even if the goods are being shipped for personal use. The Customs Tariff Act 1995 provides an exhaustive list of such items. In general, here are a few things that you should avoid sending from USA or any part of the world to Australia.

Products using CFC

Chlorofluorocarbons are harmful and these are banned in Australia. So, you cannot easily ship items like air conditioner, refrigerator, motor vehicles and other cooling items. This also includes any other product using or emitting CFC or other hydro-carbons. Check if your product is CFC, HFC or HCFC free and only then import it.

Perishable items

Avoid importing perishable items like food stuff to Australia. The common reason is the distance from USA to Australia is more; and food items may not stay fresh till a long time. They require additional equipments, special packaging and cold storage – and you are likely to incur additional charges, once the product arrives.

Explosives and weapons

Even if you have a license, you should avoid shipping explosives of any kind from USA to Australia. These pose a health hazard for people carrying it, and you might end up paying heavy fines for this. Prohibited items also include firearms, combustible substances, imitation firearms, weapons and other such items.
