Natural Remedies for Whitening your Teeth at Home

Tooth-stains are caused by coloured food such as wine, tea, coffee, soft drinks and tomato sauce. Debris from food and oil particles too cling on to the tooth surface; thereby staining it a dirty yellow over time. Moreover, the outermost layer of enamel that protects your teeth also gets worn off with time; making your teeth look stained and blotchy.

All natural remedies rectify the situation either by gently rubbing off the stains and deposits or by replenishing the enamel layer so that it looks healthy and strong. They don’t contain harsh artificial bleaching agents so you won’t see any instant results. But with patience and regular use, natural whitening agents can be highly effective in whitening your teeth and providing you with a winning smile.

Apply a Strawberry Rub

Strawberries are one of the best natural ingredients for teeth whitening. Make a paste of some strawberries and apply it on your teeth with a clean toothbrush or your finger. Leave for five minutes and rinse off thoroughly. Follow by light brushing with a toothpaste containing fluoride. Strawberries contain vitamin C that thwarts plaque build-up and also malic acid which is a natural astringent that removes stains. In case you cannot get strawberries, just use a paste of lemon juice and common salt for similar effects.

Leave for a few minutes and rinse off thoroughly. Alternately, you can add some baking powder to your regular toothpaste and use this for brushing (only once a day). However, do remember that baking soda is a bleaching agent and will corrode your teeth with prolonged regular use or excessive use.
